Metrolinx — GOTransit.com redesign

Executive Summary
Creative and development lead for the production of the GOTransit.com website.
This was the first major overhaul of the Go Transit website in over ten years. Integration with existing schedule databases was required. Google was also a service partner in the implementation of the new website.
01
Challenge
The existing GOTransit.com website was old and hard to navigate. It was hard to find the in-demand features – bus and train scheduling for example – That public transit riders wanted.
It had archaic code that made it hard to update and it was subject to breaking. As well the hosting wasn’t robust enough to handle the future configuration of the website.
02
Strategy
A needs assessment was done to determine what content should be refreshed or archived. New content features were brought in to meet both public consumer and internal surveys. There was also emphasis on UX, AODA compatibility and security hardening.
The website also needed to be the hub to showcase upcoming projects and initiatives in the community.
03
Solution
The flagship website for GO Transit received a crisp and clean face lift. New, lighter coding allowed for faster load times. The customer experience was greatly improved and further refined using hotspot analytics. The template design was also used for The Big Move, Electrification and the Georgetown South rail link microsites.
04
Results
The web modernization was a success, leading to greater internal adoption and an 80% growth increase in public user web traffic.
