This is an exercise to write digestible social media snippets of current events. I’ve decided to have the recent Canadian federal election as my subject matter.
Mark Carney and the Liberals win
The Liberals have completed their resurgence under Mark Carney, forming a strong minority government with 169 seats, 3 shy of a majority. Mark Carney handily won his riding seat and remains as Prime Minister.
Pierre Poilievere loses riding
The Conservatives failed to win over Canadians with their platform, forming the official opposition with 144 seats. Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre also lost the riding that he had held for 20 years. He has vowed to remain on as leader.
Jagmeet Singh out, NDP in freefall
The NDP had its worst historical result ever, going from 24 seats to only 7. NDP leader Jagmeet Singh lost his riding and said that he would step down as party leader.
A rebuff of Donald Trump
In a strong rebuke of Donald Trump’s tariffs and repeated musings on annexing Canada, Canadians have voted for the party and leader that they feel is best equipped to defend against these actions.
